About the Programme

 

Upon signing up, members will be invited to fill out an accessibility survey and personal profile. The accessibility survey will be used to tailor the programme and environment to their needs, and provide members with a sense of security that their place on the programme is supported. A personal profile will also allow members to introduce themselves to other members and get to know each other a little before meeting for the first time.

 

Lucy’s Art Club is being held in Turntable Gallery (TT88), a bustling gallery space that holds many exhibitions and events in the heart of the Grimsby Fish Docks. All sessions of Lucy’s Art Club will be held in the afternoon, starting at 2pm and ending at 4pm. Each session will feature a mix of presentations and practical activities, as well as tasks for each attendee to complete between sessions. There will be a mix of group and individual work to encourage you every step of the way. The programme will be held over the following dates, with these subjects for each session:

 

            Saturday 6th July 2024 References A look and discussion about art throughout history to                explore the question: what makes something a work of art?

 

            Saturday 3rd August 2024 Creative Expression: A session about the primary mode of                          creative expression, covering the various artistic mediums and processes used to create                  art.       

 

            Saturday 31st August 2024 Concept: An exploration of how to conceptualise a piece of work              and how to convey meaning through your art.

 

            Saturday 28th September 2024 Funding and Selling your work: A look at how art has been                funded throughout history, and practical tips to help you apply for funding and explore                  the different modes and ways to sell your work.

 

            Saturday 26th October 2024 Exhibition: A guide to developing your work for exhibition, and              placing it within the public eye.

 

            Saturday 23rd November 2024 Critique: An exploration of the role of critique through art                  history, and how to use critique to further develop your work for exhibition.

 

As well as the main sessions, the programme also contains six Zoom meetings allowing for further discussions with other attendees about their own progress and to share the work they have done. Each zoom session is optional, though attendees will be able to participate without physical attendance if they so choose. These sessions will also allow distance-attendees to meet the rest of the group. These will be on the following dates between 1pm and 2pm:

Lucy’s Art Club has the exceptionally low cost of £30, and includes a number of benefits beyond access to the course material. The course itself will be delivered in person and members will be able to access a travel bursary of £160* to travel to and from the gallery for each session. The programme will also be made available to members online. Each member will receive professional critique of their work from Dale Wells and Darren Neave of Turntable Gallery, and the opportunity to exhibit their work in a group exhibition at TT88 in January 2025.
